Metro Prices Changing – Introducing New Fares for Low Income Residents

On June 20, Metro will introduce Metro Lift, an income-qualified reduced-fare program that will provide DC, Maryland, and Virginia residents enrolled in Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) a 50 percent discount for any trip on Metrorail and Metrobus. On June 26, Metro will remove higher fares during peak travel times. Instead, Metrorail will charge the same rate all day based on distance traveled. No changes will be made to pricing after 9:30 pm, when a flat fare is set at $2 per trip ($1 for senior and disabled riders).
