A Lost Certification Shouldn’t Mean a Lost Career

U. B., a 47-year-old client, came to CareerCatchers on August 13, 2024, seeking assistance with
his career development. Having primarily held temporary roles in customer service and sanitation within a hospital setting, U. B. was eager to transition into a permanent position that offered stability and benefits. One of the key obstacles he faced was the loss of his Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, which he had earned previously but failed to renew or transfer when he moved away from Maryland. This left him unable to apply for certain positions that required a CNA. Additionally, the temporary nature of his past roles and lack of recent certification limited his career advancement opportunities.

U. B.’s primary goal was to secure a permanent job and pursue a certification that would enhance
his qualifications. CareerCatchers worked with him to assess his transferable skills from previous
roles, such as communication, attention to detail, and reliability, which could be applied in a healthcare setting. CareerCatchers explored various certification options, including researching the process for renewing his CNA certification in Maryland. They also introduced U. B. to alternative certifications, such as Patient Care Technician (PCT) and Home Health Aide (HHA), that could open up additional career opportunities. CareerCatchers also assisted with resume development and guided U. B. in his job search, helping him identify stable, full-time positions that aligned with his skills. Moreover, U. B. was directed to financial assistance programs for certification, including local scholarships and grants that could help reduce the cost of additional training.

Currently, U. B. is in the process of renewing his CNA certification and actively applying for permanent healthcare support positions. He is also considering other certification programs to further enhance his employability. With CareerCatchers’ support, U. B. is on a clear path to achieving his goal of stable, long-term employment in the healthcare sector.
