MONDAY: Van Hollen to Visit Montgomery County to Highlight Resources for Maryland in American Rescue Plan
WASHINGTON – On Monday, August 16, 2021, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen will be in Montgomery County to highlight federal funding, including funding within the American Rescue Plan that has provided critical relief for Maryland businesses, supported mental health facilities, and boosted workforce development programs throughout the pandemic. Senator Van Hollen will first host a roundtable at Glen Echo Park with live entertainment venue owners and recipients of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant to discuss the challenges they’ve faced due to the pandemic and how the American Rescue Plan funding has helped them weather the storm. Following that, Senator Van Hollen will tour the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals in Silver Spring, Maryland, to learn about the resources and services it provides to veterans, active duty service members, their families, and caregivers in Montgomery County. Finally, the Senator will visit the CareerCatchers offices in Silver Spring, Maryland, to meet with staff and volunteers and discuss how the pandemic has impacted their organization as they work to help provide vulnerable County residents with the training and resources they need to find and maintain employment. Senator Van Hollen will host a roundtable discussion with Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) recipients to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on live entertainment venues and how the program has helped them stay afloat. The Senator will highlight his work on the Senate Appropriations Committee to secure financial assistance for venue owners through the SVOG grant, Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), and Paycheck Protection programs.

Senator Van Hollen will tour the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals, where he will learn about the resources and services it provides to Montgomery County residents. Following the tour, the Senator will participate in a roundtable with staff to discuss the unmet needs of veterans and service members and ways to address those needs. The Senator will highlight his efforts in Congress to support these individuals, including through provisions within the American Rescue Plan to support mental health treatment services.

Senator Van Hollen will visit the CareerCatchers offices in Silver Spring, Maryland, to meet with staff and volunteers and discuss how the pandemic has impacted their organization as they work to help provide vulnerable individuals with the training and resources they need to find and maintain employment. During the visit, the Senator will highlight his efforts in Congress to strengthen workforce development in Montgomery County, including through FY21 funding for the AmeriCorps Vista program, which has boosted CareerCatchers volunteer recruitment during the pandemic.
