We are a small, highly dynamic, and growing organization seeking a full-time Career Coach to support low-income clients to achieve optimal employment outcomes.
Successful candidates will have experience working with the homeless and other disadvantage populations, and will be committed to building positive relationships with clients and case managers to ensure clients achieve job stability and long-term career growth. This role will be responsible for serving 75 – 100 people per year.
This position will entail a hybrid work arrangement, involving both remote work and in-person meetings with clients. These meetings will take place at different locations across Montgomery County and Washington DC. Therefore, candidates should be based in the DC metro area and have reliable access to a car for in-person client interactions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one coaching, training, and job placement services with a focus on innate strengths of the client.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients while guiding them to select and design appropriate education and skill building opportunities.
- Facilitate the development of employment plans and training in their chosen career pathway.
- Teach clients how to navigate milestones in the job application process, from building their resume to writing cover letters and practicing interview skills.
- Maintain client roster of 75+ clients per year with monthly in-person check-ins.
- Assess participants’ readiness for placement, including identifying and mitigating barriers, to facilitate their transition into full- or part-time employment and match them with appropriate roles.
- Ensure the retention and continued success of client placements by maintaining regular contact for a minimum of two years’ post-placement.
- Coordinate career development workshops and trainings and measure completion.
- Collaborate closely with the staff to ensure that metrics are being met and goals are in line with organizational priorities.
- Maintain complete, accurate and timely data collection of service outcomes using CRM and standard program forms in accordance with grant guidelines, including:
- Client engagement via phone calls, emails, in-person coaching, etc.
- Job readiness assessment results
- Client outcomes (e.g. employment and education)
- And other metrics
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bilingual in French, Amharic, or Spanish preferred
- Proven track record of nurturing and growing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
Requirements:
- Combination of 5 years’ education and experience in the areas of case management, career coaching and/or experience as an employment specialist.
- Demonstrated support of those in underserved communities and those experiencing housing insecurity
- Knowledge of CRM software and proficiency at managing sensitive data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of coaching methodologies and techniques.
- Certification in career coaching or related industry credentialing i.e. GCDF, CWDP, CCSP
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Montgomery County, Maryland social services and employment law is a plus
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range of $55,000-$65,000
