March 2018 Newsletter

We provide executive-style coaching to those most in need, helping clients grow into jobs they want and that provide a living wage.

Client Numbers Grow By 25% In A Single Year!

The numbers surprised even us.

In 2017, CareerCatchers saw 519 clients–up 25% from the previous year. Almost half (45%) we had never seen and just over half were returning to us.  Of the clients we saw intensively, 76% found new or better jobs.  The value of the jobs obtained is over $4 million on an annual basis.  77% participated in training, and 70% received post job placement support. Overall, we helped our clients obtain $22,000 worth of scholarships.

Our Learning Community Program Starts A New Session

Montgomery College has awarded us a new contract which includes a Learning Community for the Montgomery College Engagement Center Staff. The effort will be similar to work we are doing with Identity—developing best practices for serving clients and engaging the community in a practical and sustained way.

CareerCatchers Serves Through Holy Cross PIE

Since July, CC has been part of the steering committee for a Holy Cross Health hiring initiative known as PIE, or Pathways to Independent Employment. The program is directed towards providing employment opportunities for hard to hire populations– veterans, including wounded warriors, the homeless, seniors, and at risk youth, among other underserved groups. The PIE program, which began in order to address the relationship between poor health and unemployment in the community, focuses on the hard to place.  In addition to its advisory role, CC has referred many clients and has helped 5 clients successfully join the PIE program.

JEB Forms And Plans Event

CareerCatchers looks to the future with its own Junior Executive Board (JEB). A group of dedicated young professionals from a variety of industries and backgrounds, the JEB is committed to advancing the mission of CareerCatchers by bringing broader awareness, exposure, and support to the organization. They are also looking to stir up a bit of fun.

Their first event is a night out at the Silver Spring CAVA (8515 Fenton St.) on Sunday April 15 from 11am – 4 pm. If you say that you are a guest of CareerCatchers, CAVA will donate 10% of your purchase to CareerCatchers. We hope to see you there and bring your friends!

Nothing Beats A Volunteer

CC is helped immeasurably by the work of our volunteers. Who volunteers?  Everyone from high school students seeking student service learning hours to retirees.  The requirement is a willingness to contribute time and expertise. We provide the students and the space.
